I have been a keen angler since a very young age and have written extensively on angling topics and related topics. My main work to date has been The Angler in Ireland - Game, Coarse and Sea (1989). Over the years I have produced and presented many films and videos on various aspects of Irish fisheries and I am currently a contributor to a popular wildlife programme on RTE Radio. I have also had hands-on experience of running fisheries, including the famous Erriff and Burrishoole Fisheries.

During the past number of years I helped to initiate and tutored on the first professional Angling Guide courses to be run in Ireland. I was a founder member of the Professional Angling Guides of Ireland (PAGI), and served for a time as President. I hold the STANIC (Salmon and Trout Association National Instructors Certificate) qualification in trout and salmon angling and I am a holder of the National Angling Guides Certificate.

Currently my main interest is in tutoring both adults and children in guiding and watercraft and in providing casting instruction to individuals and groups.

Michael lives in Fermanagh - he keeps his boat on Lough Erne – but fishes for salmon, trout, dollaghan and sonaghan in rivers and loughs all over N Ireland, Donegal and the West of Ireland. He also fly fishes in the saltwaters around the north west of Ireland. As well as introducing beginners of all ages to angling he will plan and/or guide trips for individuals or groups.

He wrote and developed the Angling Guide Programme (National Angling Guide Certificate) which is the first accredited qualification in angling guiding and is a tutor for the Level 1 and Level 2 Certificates in Coaching Angling.

He is a member of the board of the Salmon and Trout Association and reports regularly on Donegal and N Ireland for Trout and Salmon magazine.
